Opposite of Normal

Last week I finished up what was remaining of the big stressful assignments of the semester. My last pchem midterm was Monday, my big English paper was due Tuesday. In order to celebrate, I watched two movies on Friday night, alone, by myself, and polished off an entire pizza from Domino's.

The first movie I watched was Léon, starring Jean Reno and Natalie Portman in her first movie. The movie itself got really high ratings on IMDb but I was really weirded out by it. I would agree that the movie was pretty good, but there was a really weird relationship built between Léon, the professional assassin, and Matilda, the 12-year old girl, which made me kind of uncomfortable. I don't mean a Lolita sexual relationship, but rather a weird sort of infatuation type of thing, that really doesn't transgress into the sexual realm. Anyway, the movie was entertaining -- check it out if you've never seen it.

The other movie I watched was The Opposite of Sex, starring among others Christina Ricci and Lisa Kudrow. The movie was one of those "dark comedies" a la The Royal Tenenbaums, but not as good in my opinion. The story is about a screwed up girl from Louisiana who visits her gay half brother in Indiana, seduces HIS boyfriend, and takes off. I got very annoyed by the plot turns half way through the film, and Kudrow's character pissed me off. I stopped it, and finished it the next day. Rather than being entertaining, the movie was more grating on the nerves. It seemed like it was trying too hard to be outrageous and that made it more annoying. I would recommend this film with reservations -- not the best of the genre.

The rest of this weekend hasn't been very noteworthy -- went to Theatre Rice, tried to catch up in chem, and did a lot of CalSO stuff. I'm really very tired of school -- it just needs to end!
