Feeling Like Fall
It has finally started to cool down, after a very uncharacteristic and more than slightly annoying heat wave. Stupid solar flares. Screw global warming. It's funny to see all the Southern California freshman complain about the cold weather. I remember complaining about it too my first year. But, for some crazy reason, I've come to appreciate it and even look forward to it in the last two years. Cold weather is fun! It's almost like having a real autumn - you know with leaves turning colors and stuff.
The last few days have been pretty exhausting for me. Another reason why it feels like fall again. The last two years, I had incredibly hard schedules during fall, so I always felt like crap - sleep deprived and malnourished. Well, Halloween night was awful for me - I got paged every hour the entire night, and bad stuff kept happening so I did not get to bed at all. The next day, I had a CalSO program for Spring admits which began at 7am. I was so exhausted throughout the day. I guess I never put it together that November 1st was the day after Halloween when Roberto asked me to work the program. Nevertheless, despite my exhaustion, it was still great to get back into the mix and do the whole CalSO thing again. It didn't have the same feel as summer, but it was still fun, in a different way. During the Q&A panel, one of the questions asked was "What is the funnest thing you have done at Cal?" For me, the answer would have to be deciding to join CalSO last year. I ended up going to La Vals with everyone and then fell asleep at 11pm.
Since the weekend, I've pretty much been working singularly on my CS project for 164 - a compiler for a non-object oriented language. It's shitty going. I hate assembly. I am slowly beginning to hate this class. In fact, the hate has slowly been building throughout the month of October. The problem with the class is that it's interesting conceptually, but I just I'm just over the details (such as how to actually implement the concepts). Yet another class to plow through. On the other hand, biochem is super interesting. My first impression wasn't wrong - I think I made a good move in changing my emphasis from Neuroscience to Biochemistry.
Only 5 weeks of class left! How exciting! How scary! Usually November goes by really fast. It's also a hardcore month. I still got two cs projects, an english paper and project, and two midterms left. We'll see how it goes. Wow, this was a random bunch of thoughts today. Guess I just needed to take a break from programming for a while. But it can't last forever. Bah! Back to fun times with x86!
