Nearly two years ago, at what might, in retrospect, be seen as a golden age of cynicism and anger in the prolific history of rohitsrealm.com, I ventured that all interpersonal relationships could be defined on the basis of convenience, exploitation, and self-aggrandizement.
Well, with the advent of social networks such as Facebook and My Space, I realized today that my trusty pyramid of yesteryear could not be veritably applied to the digital representations of relationships on social networks. Thus, for this entry I decided to prepare a more comprehensive analysis of the purported friendships tauted on social networks.

Anyone who happens to live in a part of the City of San Francisco that requires the often times laborious drive up Fell St. and down Oak St. to get from and to downtown and more importantly, 80-E, probably has rejoiced in past months since the opening of the Octavia / Market exit to the freeway. Benjy wrote about it last month, and I even commented on its benefits. However, having driven daily to Walnut Creek for the past two weeks, I'm no longer sure it's better; in fact, it may be dramatically worse.

In our modern age of petty materialism and baseless superficiality, the holiday season for many is too often marked by long lines, pointless presents, and ostentatious overindulgence. For me, this time has always been a brief respite from the trials and tribulations of everyday life; a time to relax, reflect, and re-energize. It also represents an opportunity for me to take some time out of my busy schedule to reach out to friends and family -- something I do not do enough of during most of the year.
