Glorious Return To Irvine!

After a week of blogging silence, I have returned from the horrendous occupation known as school, to let the Internet viewing public know about the happenings of my life. Or rather, what has pissed me off most recently. Let me update you a bit on what's been going on: I'm now at home in Irvine, after a victorious weekend going to the Big Game and then having to stay up all night finishing up my (last) CS project. After doing that, I had to head over to work and finish that up too, so much of my effort was drained into these activities, and I was unable to write (or rant). But never fear, in the past few days, I have accumulated wonderful ideas that I will be blogging soon. For a taste of what's to come, here's what my next blog will be about: Slow People On The Streets—stay tuned.

Ain't No Place Like Home, Right?

Coming home has become a somewhat bittersweet event these days. While I do enjoy the time off, sleeping in my queen size bed (versus the twin in my apartment from which my feet hang out), watching episodes from the first season of The X-Files, and generally doing nothing but eating and chilling, I'm also growing somewhat bored already, and it's only been 2 days. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that many of my friends are not home at the same time as me, so thus I haven't really been hanging out that much. Also, I feel kind of guilty, because when I'm bored and have absolutely nothing to do, I haven't been doing homework like I should be because I have a ton of crap right after break. But it's still early. I'll probably get around to doing my homework soon enough, considering the rate that my boredom is increasing.

The Lady in Pink (and My Failure to Capitalize)

In the past two months, there has been much ado—both online and off—about my apparent successes, and more realistically, resounding failures recently with the fair sex. And yet, despite finding (and losing) not one, but two soulmates in as many months, and countless blown opportunities at various social functions, my most catastrophic failures have come not as a result of my consummate inability to close the proverbial deal (though that certainly goes without saying), but rather, my inexplicable ineffectualness in detecting the (often overt) advances of said fair sex. An anecdote from my trip this weekend to Irvine (hereafter affectionately known only as the 'vine) should be instructive.

Au Revoir California

Nearly 20 years ago, in October of 1987, I moved to California from the dirty confines of Baltimore, MD; tomorrow, having spent more than 80 percent of my (necessarily futile) life in the Golden State, I leave for hitherto uncharted territory: Chicago, IL. Though I should probably be feeling sad, or nostalgic, or at least something, strangely, I am not. I guess when I left San Francisco last month, I was already mentally prepared to leave California; the past three weeks loafing in Irvine at my parents' house have barely registered at all.

The Spring Break That Was Neither

Spring Break. The phrase conjures up images of warm, tropical beaches, scantily-clad women, and tequila—lots and lots of tequila—in your mind, does it not? Unfortunately for me, I sort of hate the beach (despite having spent a little less than half my life in (the) O.C.), have already been to such destinations as Cancún and Miami, and in any case, stand no chance with scantily-clad women of any sort, no matter how much tequila they may have consumed. Instead, I chose to spend my break on a bicoastal whirlwind tour that left me perhaps more tired than before. And considering that today was probably the first day where it was both sunny and above 45° F here in Chicago, one might say that my so-called Spring Break was neither spring nor a break. [...]
